Spring is Coming!

I am still working on making my cards (130) for the residents of the Belmont Nursing Home. I like to try to make a different design for each person, so Sketch challenges really help me with my card making. Today I made 5 different cards specific for five different card challenges.

Cardz for Guyz – Challenge #46 Food and/Drink

This week’s challenge at Cardz for Guyz is Food and Drink. I thought the Birdbrain Brew was a perfect choice!. I coloured the stamp with Copic markers, layered it, used an embossed background, some twine, glossy accents on the beer foam and bird eyes, and add the Happy Birthday Seal Stamp by Technique Tuesday.

Hats off to You!

The Belmont Nursing Home is having a special “Development Day” for the staff, and I was asked to make 25 thank you cards that would hold a double sized gift card. The theme is HATS. I have a great digi stamp by Hambo called Silly Birds in Hats. They were coloured with Copics. I used a circled embossing folder for the background, and the circle Thank You stamp by Technique Tuesdays. On the inside of the card, I developed a holder for a gift card and used a computer generated sentiment. The hats are royalty free Corel Draw clipart.

Let’s Chill!

I designed my card off a sketch over at Christmas Stampin’ All Year Long. I used a small snowflake embossing folder  from Tim Holtz/Sizzix for the background. I coloured the snowman from Paper Smooches - Warm Hearts and sentiment from Technique Tuesday – It’s good to snow!.

I had a double win this week at Christmas Stampin’ All Year Long. I placed Top 3 and Won the challenge which gives me an opportunity to be a Guest Designer.

One Layer Christmas Cards

Today, I challenged myself  to make a one layer card. I have always been very hard to make a single layer card using only one sheet of paper because there can be no mistakes, and I like add-ons. Also if you use Copics, you must use the extra thick 110lb paper or the colours blend through. Today I think I was successful. I ended up with three different cards.

Card 1

one layer d

I started with the simplest card first. I used a half sheet (5.5 x 8.5) Neenah Desert Storm Kraft. I ran it through my Big Shot using the Tulip Border folder by Stampin’ Up. Next I stamped Technique Tuesday’s Greenhouse Society stamp set, Berries in Brown Ink. I added red stickles to the berries, and frosted stickles for the snow.

I entered card 1 into CAS on Sunday – Emboss it (used embossing folder)

Card 2

For my second card, I used the other half of my kraft paper. The Stamp set I used is by PI – Winter Hills. I started by stamping the large house on the card center and added red to the roof and door. I also used B000 to add a shadow. I stamped another house on a small piece of masking paper which I carefully cut out and covered my coloured house. I randomly cut out a couple of hill shades and using them as a temporary stencil, brushed the edges with Unicorn white pigment ink. While I had the white ink out, I added snow and snowflakes. I added the trees using Forest Green Hero Arts ink, using both a first and second stamping for added depth. I added the sentiment and snowman (Versafine Onyx Black) and sketched a front walk using my .03 Copic Black Detail pen. The latter two, I added white using my Picket Fence Distress Marker.

I entered my card 2 into 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown. and A Gem of a Chalenge – Create a Scene

Card 3

My final card is more traditional. I used a new stamp I just received from Stampendous – Christmas Cottage. I started with masking off my card front (Neenah Solar white 110lb) so I wouldn’t get any ink on the back or inside of the card. I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black and coloured it with Copic Markers. Next I lightly blended Broken China and Stormy Skies distress inks onto the card, going dark from the outside to lighter towards the middle. My final touches was to added a little glitter with Stickles.

UPDATE: My Winter Hills card was selected as a Favorite of the Week at Splitcoaster Stampers. See Post #71 at http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/general-stamping-talk-f17/favorites-week-ending-october-26-2014-a-t593426-2.html
