C.R.A.F.T. Challenge 421 – 22nd of June – Animals

DTbadgeA couple of months back. I took a class with Heather Telford. She is on the Design Teams for both Penny Black and Darkroom Door. She showed us how to create beautiful and colourful backgrounds using Distress Ink Stains on watercolour paper. These are the cards I made at home. The stamp sets are from Darkroom Door - Background Stamp – Tribal and Rubber Stamp Set – African Trees.

I stamped the images first and let dry for five minutes. Next using a wide brush and plain water I wet the paper surface. Next using the same brush I blending various shades of yellow, orange and red. Once dry, I glued image to the card base and added a sentiment.

52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown – Theme Challenge – Nutcracker(s) or Toy Soldier(s)

CCT - Design For Badge

I love this challenge because I challenged myself to make a Christmas Card designed specifically for a boy. I used Tim Holtz’s Christmas Stamps. Their were 4 stamps in this group: tree, snowman, toy soldier, and snowflake. Note: You can also buy them as individual stamps. I stamped and coloured the soldier 4 times. I used the dull image for the base and inked the areas around the soldier with various brown distress inked. The actual soldier, I coloured with Copics. I then fussy cut his head, hat, gloves, boots, and crossed embellishments and layered them on the base using foam dimensionals. I also distressed the card stock around the toy soldier image and added amber gems and natural twine.

I made two cards for this challenge. Both Skating themes, both totally different.

Card 1: For my first card I used an adorable image from Bugaboo Stamps, called “Winbird Skate”. I coloured him with my Copic markers and layered him on red and black card stock. For some added fun, I used red Stickles for snowflakes and the heart tattoo on his rump. The sentiment is by Whimsy Stamps, called “Merry and Bright Digital Sentiments“. There are 11 fun sentiments and 4 Christmas stamps.

I don’t use patterned papers as often as I should. For these two cards I found these great papers by Kaisercraft and just let the papers decide the appropriate images the add. I thought they both made a wonderful background for Tiddly Inks - WinterLight Wishes – Wryn | Digital Stamp. I often will stamp or print out numerous images and colour them at night while watching TV. In this case I used Copic markers. When I was going through my paper/card stock stash I thought the papers and image were perfect. I fussy cut out the little girl and bear and layered them on the paper. The sentiments were part of the same paper pack. I love the results.
