C.R.A.F.T. – Challenge 391 – 24th of November – Not a Card

DTbadgeI recently took a series of weekend classes with Keren Tamir, Prima Instructor & Designer. During the two days of workshops hosted by SGD – Scrappin’ Great Deals. London, ON – Keren introduced us to a variety of multi-media products from gel paste to watercolour oil pastels to prima mica sprays. I created a scrapbook page, cards and tags, and finally a wall canvas. The examples below are samples of Keren’s canvases, but she encouraged us to do our own thing.

I opted to make my canvas using three geckos vs trees. We started with cutting up card stock and glueing it to the canvas using Prima’s Soft Matte Gel. (similar to Modge Podge but much better). This gives the canvas added texture, and it is a great way to use up that ugly card stock in your stash! Once dry, we painting the canvas using Prima’s Heavy White Gesso. It was pretty quick drying. To colour the background wed used the Prima Watercolour Oil Pastels. This product is amazing. I have Tim Holtz’s new Distress Crayons, but this product is amazing to work with, and when you add water…WOW! While the colour dried, I drew up 3 geckos and a spiral sun. I cut them out of book pages, then glued them to the canvas. To add more texture, we added mica powder to Prima modeling paste, and used a couple of different stencils. We also inked various areas. I used a honeycomb patterned stamp. I edged and blending more of the oil pastels around the edges of the geckos and sun to make it pop! The final step was to add a sentiment and highlight it using a Sharpie.gecko
