Color Challenge – Gray, Soft Blue, Soft Green

This week’s challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is to create a card using Gray, Soft Blue, and Soft Green.

Close ups of the salt texture effect

I started my card by creating a fun watercoloured background. I taped a 5 x 7 shets of Fabriano 100% cotton hot pressed watercolour paper on a clipboard. With a large brush I coated the paper with clear water. Next I sprayed a puddle of Salty Ocean ans Cracked Pistachio Distress stains on my craft mat. To achieve a “soft” colour effect, I added a fair amount of water to the stains before I brushed the colours on the blank watercolour paper. Once I achieved the colour saturation I wanted I sprinkled some regular table salt and course salt sea on the still wet paper. I set aside to dry. The salt draws in the moisture and  leaves an interesting pattern similar to frost on a window.

While the watercolour paper dried, I stamped Snowy by Penny Black on Neenah Solar white 80lb paper with Momento Black Ink. I coloured him with T0, T2, T4 Neutral Copic Markers. I also added a little clear Wink of Stella to his hat and scarf.

Once the watercolour paper was dry, I brushed off the salt, cut the paper down to 5.25 x 4, and layered it on top of a green card stock 5.375 x 4.125, and next a blue card stock 5.5 x 4.25, added a grey and soft blue bow, and finally on a A2 card. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.

I entered my card into The 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown Color Challenge

UPDATE: I received an Honourable Mention for my card in the 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown
