Oh Deer, Christmas is Near!

I know, my title is a silly play on words. While in Ottawa a week ago, I purchased the prettiest Christmas papers from the BoBunny – Sleigh Ride series. I love the wood paneling paper and thought it would make a wonderful “male” Christmas Card. I had envisioned it with a deer or reindeer as the focal point.

In the end, I opted to use my Cricut machine to cut out a series of deer/reindeer silhouettes. Each year, I make 135 plus Christmas card for the Belmont Long Term Care Home, and I like to make sure that each card is unique. I have designed 8 cards in my deer series. For the deer cuts, I used  the Teresa Collins – Holiday cartridge -  Deer M332B3, Deer M33F87, and Reindeer M41413. The sentiments are from Lily of the Valley and Simon Says Stamps. I also used some snowflake stickers I picked up last year at the Dollar Tree. I chose two ways to mount the images, either flush mount or as a shadow drop using foam tape. The white/kraft wood embossed papers are from SSS. I am showing all 8 cards to show how I was able to use both the positive and negative deer silhouettes, and change up the cards with small modifications.

My first card was specifically designed for the 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown – Sketch Challenge (52CCT39-16)

UPDATE: I am very excited to have won the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown Challenge with the card above.

  1. What a fantastic series of cards. I think the neutral tones and the deer images work so well together. Great texture with the wood grain too. Nice take on the sketch! Thanks so much for playing along with 52CCT this week! Deborah, DT.
