C.R.A.F.T. Challenge 296 – 29th of January – Valentine’s Day/Love

This week our challenge at C.R.A.F.T. is Valentine’s Day/Love. I used a digi stamp from Stitchy Bear Stamps by Gingerloft – Valentine Balloons. I was playing with Brusho Watercolours and ended up with some fun results. Once the watercolour paper was dry I assembled a couple of card variations. The “love” die cut is from PI.

If You Give a Crafter a Cookie – Challenge #10

Over at If You Give a Crafter a Cookie Challenge they post the best photo inspirations! This week is no different. See below…aren’t those cookies adorable!

jan15For this challenge, I pulled out my Stampip’ Up – Build and Owl punch. I modified him to look like a penguin, added a hat from the Santa stamp – Cozy Christmas by Mama Elephant, snowflake embossing folder by Tim Holtz/Sizzix, and a sentiment – Polar Pals by Mama Elephant. I also added a few gems, pompoms and some frosted stickles.

A Moment to Reflect

It is always a sad time to make a sympathy card, but it is very important to send your condolences. A friend’s co-worker’d father passed away and she asked if I would make a special sympathy card to her. I made two options for her to choose from.

sympathy with trees 2

For my first card, I masked off the card front and blended Broken China, Peeled Paint and Evergreen Distress ink. I then stamped the single tree from Stampin’ Up – Lovely as a Tree in the same inks (stmped off once) for the background, then the full tree in Stampin’ Up – Artichoke Green. The sentiment is from Clearly Besotted – Brushed Poppies. I stamped the tree on the envelope as well as inside the card.

For the second card, I went very simple. I used the white wood grain paper by SSS. I die cut the large fern Spellbinder - FOLIAGE Dies, and paper pieced it back into the opening. I only glued the stem so the leaves would add dimension. I added the Sympathy die sentiment from SSS. I added another leaf plus sentiment on th inside cover of the card, plus a greeting verse.

I entered this card into MFP - Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge 246 - Only White

Guest Designer for Cardz 4 Guys Challenge #55 – Let’s Pretend

I am very honoured to be working with a great group of ladies for the month of January as a Guest Designer at Cardz 4 Guys. This week’s challenge at Cardz 4 Guys is Let’s Pretend.  The focus is to make a card for our guys using a faux finish.

In my case, I used a technique I learned from Kristina Werner and created a Faux night sky. You can see her demonstrate her technique here.

I started by colouring my Bugaboo Stamp – Martian Fly with Copic markers. I fussy cut him out and set him aside. I made two versions of the card (vertical and horizontal). I used sentiments from Waltzingmouse Stamps – Half Pint Heroes and Paper Smooches -Space Cadet.

To make the night sky I used Tim Holtz’s Distress Paints – Salty Ocean, Black Soot, Picket Fence, Evergreen Bough, and Mustard Seed. I blotted them on my craft mat, misted them with water, and smooched my watercolour paper into the paint about three times. I dried the paper between. Once I had it the way I liked, I added a few dots of white paint using a dotter (McGill – Paper Blossom Tool Kit). I also added a little shimmer by misting the background with clear Tattered Angel Pearl Spray. I thought these would make wonderful little Valentine Cards for two special little guys in my life!

This Challenge runs from January 27th until February 2. I hope to see you there!

Winter Snow Bird

I don’t know what happened but we have little to no snow here in Ontario. The temperatures are so warm the lake is open and no ice formations anywhere. It is too warm for January. I can’t believe I just said that, but we had to cancel our winter photography shot in Michigan because of the warm weather. That being said, I decided to make a cooler card (getting 2015 Christmas cards started). Using Catch the Bug’s Photo Inspiration (shown below), this is what I made.

Products used:

Bugaboo Stamps – Crow (note: I flipped the digi stamp, blocked out the flower in his mouth, coloured him similar to the photo inspiration bird, and added a Santa hat)
China Glass Distress Ink – Tim Holtz
Copic markers to colour the bird
Memory Box Dies – Hayden Twigs
Snowflakes Dies – Paper Smooches
Red stickles – Ranger
Snow Writer – DecoArt
Sentiment – Papertrey Ink
