I created this card using MFT - Die-namics Chevron Cover-Up, Die-namics LJD Blissful Butterflies, Die-namics MPD Winged Beauties, MPD Winged Beauties, LJD Vintage Frames stamps and dies.

Girl’s Crafting Weekend.

Last fall, my BFF Pearl and I took part in a crafting retreat with SGD and it was awesome. We stayed at a luxury resort on the shores of Lake Huron, were feed fabulous food, and were allowed to craft all weekend. The downside was that we had to haul all our supplies (and you always forget something), and the long drive (3-4 hours each way).

In the spirit of that weekend, we decided to have our own mini craft/girls weekend. We stayed at my place, ordered in, rented movies, and made cards-over 80 between the two of us. We experimented with encaustics, tried some new stamping techniques, and played with the Cricut machine.

Last week I downloaded the MFT Get Sketchy PDF’s from 2010-2014. For our first card, Pearl selected the die cut and the sketch and we created a card. It was challenging, and while we both used the same materials, but the results were different. The die is called Love Birds from Cottage Kutz and I used various dies from MFT’s Blueprints. Here is my version.

For our next project, we were inspired by the Cricut cartridge – Life’s a Party and a card made by Amy @ http://my3escrapbooking.blogspot.ca/search/label/Birthday. While I have made this vulture numerous times, it was the feathered collar that Amy thought that put the card over the top.

Birthday Vulture

I have been wanting to make a tone on tone card for some time, so I found some  kraft card stock with text /or musical notes. I stamped my Hero Arts - Large Blossom using cup o’ joe for a tone on tone effect. I added the Serene Bird from Memory Box to some of the cards. The sentiments are from various PI stamps.

When I was selecting my cardstock, one selection choice  had some beautiful embossed roses. It was far too pretty to just cut up, so we each had a piece and opted to make a special card featuring the card stock imagery. (I am sorry, but I did not keep the paper pad info). At this time I did not add a sentiment, but will when I have a special card to send.

Pearl loved my  encaustic cards, so we both tried our hands at creating some special note cards. All these cards can be adapted to any occasion. I created some marine backgrounds, some landscapes, and some abstracts. Here are some of my wax paintings.

We had so much fun, we are doing it again next month. I can’t wait!

Happy Birthday Card Making Day

I make cards for the seniors at the Belmont nursing home, and because there are more than 130 residents, I try to stay ahead of the game.

Happy Bee Day

Happy Bee Day

My first card uses a number of techniques. I embossed the background using a honeycomb embossing folder. I cut the squares and banners with my Cricut using the “George” cartridge. The bees and sentiment is from Simon Says Stamps - CIRCLE FRIENDS.

This card uses die cuts from MFT -Die-namics Notched Tag  and Memory Box - WOODLAND BRANCH  . The sentiment is from CTMH – Life is Tweet

This funny card used stamps from Whipper Snapper Designs – MOO’d Swing & Udder Year Older.

3-D flower cards

I received a flower cut-out set for Christmas by K and Co. I made card backings for the flowers with my Cricut and added a Happy Birthday tag and had an instant card.

Ewe go Girl!

The sheep cards can be used for more than a birthday. I used the Whipper Snapper Designs “Ewe Go Girl”, and the mini dolly & fishtail stax from MFT.

Happy Birthday Tu-Tu You sentiment was computer generated. The little girls are from Whipper Snapper - Lil’ Ballerina and my favorite Spellbinder’s set - A2 Filigree Delight.

These three cards were designed using a water colour technique background. I tinted the water colour paper using distress ink and a spray bottle. When the paper was still wet, I stamped the ferns from PI – Meadow Greens in the matching colours. The fox and squirrel are from Lawn Fawn – Into the Woods . The frog is from Hero Arts - SPARKLE BIRTHDAY. The buttons are a Martha Stewart Punch.

Busy colouring!

Because I try to make different cards for the residents, I will sometimes stamp numerous pages of different characters and colour them while watching TV. I will either use Copics or Derwent Inktense watercolour pencils. I will then put them away for easy access to make a quick card or two. Well I have gone a little overboard!

My goal over the next couple of days is to put some cards together. I have more than 100 characters done and I covered my whole dining room table!

PI Challenge Day 5 – Feb 9, 2014

PI Challenge

For today’s challenge, PI wants you to make a Happy Birthday Card for their folks in the warehouse. For an extra chance to win, you can include a photo of you holding your handmade card – but I am opting out of that. Here is my submission.

I used Papertrey Ink’s – Funky Florals, Ruby Rose, and Harvest Berries stamps to create this card. I will be mailing it tomorrow.
