Catherine and Cathy Create – October Challenges

For October, Catherine and Cathy Create focus on Halloween and Halloween colours so I decided to try my hand at all three challenges.

CCC_Tags Challenge-001 October Tag Challenge: Tags for Treats

For this challenge, I made a larger tag to attach to a Halloween Candy Bag. My little grandson is only 1 1/2 years old and cannot eat a lot of the candies given out, so I will make him up a treat bag full of things that he can. I started off making the tag out of glossy black card stock. I added 3 bats and a sentiment from MFT - BB Witch Way Is the Candy?. I embellished the tag with some star diecuts from SSS, and ribbon from my stash.

CCC_CardsChallenge-001  October Card Challenge: Enter If You Dare Colors

Halloween is my second favorite holiday! I love all the fun Bright colours. For this card, I used a handmade background using three colours of alcohol inks dropped onto high gloss paper. I Copics coloured characters from MFT - BB Witch Way Is the Candy? The moon is a Switched Circle die cut from MFT.

I made up some small treat boxes for my special neighbourhood trick or treaters. I used my We are Memory Keepers Pillowbox punch to make the boxes, filled them with candy, added a ribbon, a Halloween character and a cute sentiment. I used the cat and dog from SSS – Trick or Treat that I coloured with Copics and fuzzy cut out. The card is from my stash.

UPDATE: I won the card challenge at Catherine and Cathy Create – October Challenges. I also won the “prize” of the Seasonally Scattered stamp set

Kindred Souls Art Cruise with Julie Nutting “Prima Dolls”

I am gearing up for my crafting cruise to Alaska. We had two optional projects, one was to design 15 swag tags using Prima Dolls, and the other was to make a mixed media art piece for a draw swag. Well one of the reasons I am taking the cruise, beside the fact I love the Prima Dolls, is to learn multi-media techniques. I have never make a 3d m-m anything. I was going to make a picture frame, but I found a wooden box at our local Homesense on special and decided to tackle a jewelry or treasure box. One of Julie’s recent releases had a wooden die cut mermaid and a new mermaid stamp so that was my inspiration.

I started using modge podge, but it really bubbled the paper…I ended up going with the flow,so to speak, because it resembled waves. I used stamps by Designs by Ryn, Prima- stamps/die cuts/paper/embellishment, MFT rose dies, real shells, jewels, pearls, netting, sequins, paint, copic markers, and about 10 coats for clear lacquer. Here is the result.

Reading is “Out of this World”

The challenge over at KIS is Make and Bookmark. I love to read, maybe even more than card making. I bought out my stamps by Paper Smooches – Space Cadet to make my bookmark. I also used the Star Banner Dies by Papertrey Ink, and the earth stamp is from Hero Arts – Epic love.

Prima Doll -Priscilla as a Birthday Party Girl

My special “almost daughter” is having a Birthday, so I had to create a very special card. Her favorite colours are purple and black, and she has quite an eccentric style so I tried my best to do her justice. She can really rock a hat, and yes, that is a bit of purple in her hair! Her husband is french from Quebec, and I once told her that if she learnt to speak french well enough to get directions and order food, I would take her to Paris, thus the eiffel tower. I used Prima – Julie Nutting Mixed Media Doll Cling Mounted Stamps – Priscilla. I also used dies from PI, MFT, Penny Black for the background. The sentiment is from Hero Arts. Because the stamp is so large, my card measures 6 x 10. I included the inside sentiment to show I continued the purple/black theme inside.

I am going to enter my card the Card Concept Monochrome Purple challenge. I tried to used only purple ink, purple patterned & solid papers, and purple accents. I also used a natural background paper I tinted purple, black, gold, and clear accents. I would say my card falls into the shabby chic style.
